Through found objects, paintings, installations and performance art, Yonsenia
White's mixed media work explores social constructions of race, gender, desire
and identity. She gives lectures by and about artists from marginalized and
underrepresented groups whose artwork engages in personal, political and social
activism. White also presents papers at regional and national art conferences
about her award-winning teaching pedagogy in her conceptually based studio
courses.
White's research interests have lead to interdisciplinary projects and teaching
opportunities in the Women’s Studies Program, the Department of Industrial &
Systems Engineering and the
Department of Management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech.
Her work is part of permanent and private collections and has been exhibited in
over forty juried, group and solo shows in New York City, Chicago, San
Francisco and other cities throughout the country.
