Assistant Professor Ben Hannam
Ben Hannam, AAS, BFA, MFA
School of Visual Arts (SOVA)
Appointment(s): Area Coordinator of Visual Communications Design (VCD) Program Assistant Professor of Interactive Design
Creative Scholarship and Research:
Prof. Hannam’s current research investigates Constructionism learning theories in graphic design education and visual communication. He is creating and investigating the methods of teaching graphic design in which students actively construct models and theories, test their validity and draw their on conclusions through creative experimentation and the making of social objects. This method of learning shifts the ‘burden’ of learning from being teacher dependent to student initiated. His creative scholarship focuses in visual branding, typography, print design, interactive design, design theory and practice, social responsibilities of graphic design, and creative problem solving practices. He has exhibited his graphic design and artwork internationally and also lectured internationally on Three-Dimensional Typography, Experiential Learning Environments and Constructionism. Prof. Hannam is currently working on a book to help graphic design students begin their graphic design career simultaneously with their academic pursuit of becoming a professional in the graphic design industry.
