Foundations

The SOVA School of Visual Arts Foundations Program provides a challenging and inclusive community learning experience for students exploring the use and understanding of formal, technological and structural aspects of art and design. Students are exposed to a variety of methods and materials, as well as conceptual and contemporary and contexts. Creative and critical thinking skills are fundamental to the learning process.

Curriculum: Five classes comprise the Foundations area - Principles of Design I Principles of Design II, Drawing I, Drawing II and Principles of New Media. These classes are studio-based, intensive, and prerequisite to all other visual communication design and studio art courses. Class capacities are limited to between fifteen and twenty students per class to allow for close contact with instructors and ample working space.

Facilities: Foundations of Art classes are held in the Art Armory.
